POWELL COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Deputy Treasurer
OVERALL FUNCTIONS
The Powell County Treasurer’s Office is responsible for recording all revenue received by Powell County entities, Powell County High School and all elementary schools in the county. The treasurer’s office collects city taxes and special improvement district fees through its tax billing process and distributes this money to the city. This office is responsible for licensing and registering all motor vehicles owned by Powell County residents and distributing this money to the state.
The Deputy Treasurer performs a variety of routine and complex accounting and administrative tasks collecting revenue, motor vehicle fees and real estate, personal property and mobile home taxes.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB
The person in this position must be able to multi-task and be willing to provide superior customer service. Requires attention to detail. Must be accurate when counting money and calculating totals. Deals with sensitive information and adheres to standards of confidentiality.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
TAXES
a. Create, print and mail Real Estate, Personal Property and Mobile Home tax bills.
b. Process and post tax payments for customers and through the mail.
c. Process tax assignments and redemptions, including calculating interest due back to the taxpayer.
d. Assist with the collection of delinquent taxes including: filing liens on personal and mobile home taxes, printing and mailing delinquent notices and assisting with the tax deed process.
e. Send letters to taxpayers requesting penalty and interest when not included in payment through the mail.
f. Balance cash drawer.
MOTOR VEHICLE
a. Register vehicles and issue new license plates at the counter and through the mail.
b. Process title transfers making sure all required forms are included and complete.
c. Issue 40-day stickers and collect all fees applicable.
d. Notary for motor vehicle.
e. Balance cash drawer.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
a. Process all monies received by the county
PUBLIC RELATIONS
a. Greet the public in a friendly manner in person and on the phone.
b. Show professionalism by exercising tact, diplomacy and courtesy at all times.
c. Answer questions or route questions to appropriate personnel.
d. Act as liaison between the public, state and the county.
e. Keep confidential matters confidential.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
a. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, 10 key, Microsoft Office & Excel, filing and accounting experience, preferably BARS accounting experience.
b. Two years of increasingly responsible related experience or any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.

b. Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
c. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
